MOT Tester Training: Are you Eligible?

An MOT tester is a qualified individual certified to carry out MOT tests in the UK. These are annual vehicle safety, roadworthiness, and exhaust emissions tests required for most vehicles over 3 years old.
Responsibilities:
- Inspect vehicles to make sure they meet road safety and environmental standards
- Use specialist equipment to check things like brakes, lights, tyres, emissions, and structure
- Issue MOT certificates (VT20) if the vehicle passes
- Record results using the DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency) online system
Requirements to Become One:
- Be a qualified mechanic (e.g., Level 3 in light vehicle maintenance)
- Have at least 4 years’ experience working on vehicles
- Pass the MOT tester qualification course approved by DVSA
- Be of good repute and have a valid UK driving licence
